Alyssa Paola Thompson is an American soccer player who plays as a forward for the United States national team. At the age of 13, Thompson was playing with players four years older than her. and committed to Stanford University at the age of 15. In April 2021, she was named Gatorade girls' soccer national player of the year. She played for Harvard-Westlake School, scoring 48 goals in 18 games. She also played for Total Futbol Academy's under-19 team at the age of 17, in the MLS Next league, and was the only female player in the league. On January 12, 2023, Angel City FC of the National Women's Soccer League selected Thompson with the first overall pick in the 2023 NWSL Draft. She is the first high school student to be drafted in National Women’s Soccer League history.
